Empowering Girls: Ending Child Marriage Around the Globe

Child marriage is a pressing issue that continues to affect millions of young girls around the world. These girls are forced into marriage before they are ready, often facing devastating consequences such as early pregnancy, limited education, and increased risk of domestic violence. It is a violation of human rights and must be stopped.

One way to combat child marriage is through education. By providing girls with access to quality education, we can empower them to make informed decisions about their futures. Education can help girls gain the knowledge and confidence to resist pressure from their families and communities to marry young.

Another important step in ending child marriage is raising awareness and changing cultural norms. Many communities view child marriage as a tradition or a way to protect girls, but in reality, it harms them physically, emotionally, and socially. By challenging these harmful beliefs and promoting gender equality, we can create a world where young girls are valued for their potential, not their marital status.

It is also crucial to provide support for girls who have already been married. Many child brides face extreme isolation and abuse, with limited options for escape. Organizations and governments must offer services such as counseling, legal support, and safe shelters to help these girls rebuild their lives and pursue their dreams.

Together, we can work towards a world where every child has the right to choose their own future. By supporting education, changing cultural beliefs, and providing resources for those in need, we can help end child marriage and ensure a brighter tomorrow for all young girls. Let’s stand together and say no to child marriage.

In 2013, I posted a YouTube video decrying child marriage showcasing her story and her experience in being forced into marriage contracts, which quickly went viral and prompted coverage of Yemen’s continued practice of child marriage. She managed to influence the comprehensive national dialogue conference in Yemen to pass and apply a law of criminalizing the marriage of minors under the age of 18 , and that is after launching her first video to rally the international media to denounce the marriage of minors. Below are highlights of her main not limited to her achievement during the awareness campaign she held throughout herlife:
